The Three Blackbirds

I recently seen a pub sign, which comes from the The Dacorum Heritage Trust collection.
The pub is situated in a village called Flamsted in Hertfordshire and their website says the building dates back to the 16th Century.
I really like how the birds were drawn, they look almost comical.   Using Pencil and watercolour I drew them and copied them three times.
I first did a version in white. Then I tried different background washes in blue and yellow.
What do you think works best?

Life in the 1950s

Using adverts in newspapers as a reference I drew these women for a display I did for 'Life in the 1950s'. I love the fashions from this period. I felt the display needed something colourful as there was a quite a few black and white photos and I thought these really made the panel look a little more eye catching.

I also drew the logo for the 'Festival of Britain' that took place in 1951.

Verulamium Museum, St Albans

I went to the Verulamium Museum the museum for 'everyday Roman life' and spotted some really nice brooches an bone hair pins. I love the shapes for the rabbit and horse.
Using a ink pen and watercolour I have drawn them here

British Museum: Mustachioed Men

I visited The British Museum recently and found these items that made me think of this weeks theme.
They are cast bronze masks representing mustachioed male faces buried around 50-20 BC and found in a rich cremation burial at Welwyn Hertfordshire.  They're tiny, probably 5cm maybe 1.5inches tall.
